EV Charger
Installation
Newcastle

Supply checked before anything is promised, a circuit of its own out to the unit, and the charger sited where the lead genuinely reaches the car.

The step most quotes skip

When a charge point quote unravels, the cause is almost always the same: the incoming supply was never examined. The capacity of the service head and tails is what determines whether 7kW drops straight in, whether the unit needs to throttle itself around household demand, or whether the truthful answer involves speaking to the network operator before a single component is ordered.

Establishing that takes very little time and nothing else proceeds until it is done. It is also why a postcode down the phone is not enough to price a charger properly — two houses facing each other across the same street can need completely different solutions depending on what already sits on the service.

Where the unit ends up living

Position is the other thing people underestimate and then regret daily. A charger mounted wherever the cable run happened to suit the installer is one you will be irritated by for a decade. Which way do you park? Which side is the car socket on? Does the lead cross a step, a border, a bin store or the bit of path everyone walks down?

We walk it with you before drilling. Tethered units suit anyone who parks the same way every time and wants to plug in without fetching anything. Untethered suits shared frontages, tighter drives and people who want flexibility later on. Neither is automatically the right answer and anyone insisting otherwise is selling you what they have in the van.

Tyneside parking, honestly

Terraced streets and flats without off-street parking are the hard case and we will not dress it up: running a lead across a public footpath is a trip hazard and we are not going to certify it. Where there is a drive, a hardstanding, a rear lane with vehicle access or a shared yard with an agreement in place, it can nearly always be made to work.

Tyneside flats add their own wrinkle. If you are the lower flat with a yard and the supply head is shared, the charger needs feeding from your own board rather than anything communal, and that needs establishing before a unit is bought. Out towards Ponteland, Darras Hall and Killingworth the issues flip to longer runs and detached garages, which is a volt drop calculation rather than a parking problem.

What the installation includes

  • Capacity check on the service head, tails and board
  • Its own way back to the consumer unit, nothing shared
  • Protection and RCD type matched to the charger fitted
  • Cable clipped on a planned line, not improvised
  • Diamond coring through stone, brick and cavity walls
  • Mounted plumb, weathertight and at a height that works
  • Commissioned, tested and paired to the app if it has one
  • Registered with the network operator and certified

How it runs

What actually happens

  1. Look at it

Supply, board, parking and cable route all assessed together. You leave that visit knowing what can be done and what it costs, well before anything is bought.

  2. Pick the spot

Marked up together outside before a drill comes out. The parked car dictates the location; the convenience of the cable route does not.

  3. Fit it

Own circuit pulled, wall cored, charger hung, and the cable held as close and inconspicuous as the fabric of the building permits.

  4. Prove and explain

Commissioned, tested, connected to the app if it has one, certificates issued, and a run-through of how it behaves before the van moves.

FAQs

Asked about this a lot

Can I get a charger with no driveway?

Honestly, usually not in a form we would be willing to sign off. Trailing a lead across a public footpath is a trip hazard and most authorities will not allow it. A drive, hardstanding, rear lane access or a shared yard with an agreement in place all work. Describe your parking on the phone and you will get a straight answer rather than a maybe.

I live in a Tyneside flat. Is it possible?

Often, and it depends which flat and what the outside space looks like. A lower flat with its own yard and rear access is usually workable. The critical part is that the charger is fed from your own consumer unit rather than anything shared, which needs establishing before you buy a unit rather than on fitting day.

Will you fit a charger I have already bought?

Yes, so long as it is a compliant unit sold for the UK market. If you have not ordered yet, a five-minute conversation first is worth having — tethered against untethered, and whether the features you are paying extra for actually matter for the way you charge.

Will my supply take one?

Most domestic supplies will, but it wants checking rather than assuming, particularly where there is already an electric shower, an induction hob and a heat pump on the same service. Where the headroom is tight, load management built into the charger usually solves it and avoids an expensive supply upgrade.

How long does it take?

A straightforward installation is most of a day. Longer runs, solid walls, detached garages or anything needing work at the board can push beyond that. You will be told which of those you have got at the survey, not on the morning we turn up.

What about a charger for a business or a rental?

Both fine. A rental needs the owner's agreement and is worth pairing with an inspection while we are there. For business premises there are extra questions about who charges, how usage gets recorded and whether units need networking, and those get talked through before any quote goes out.
